The use of the film in Tarantinos world is multilayered.

Its also a representation of where Dalton wants to be.

Just as the spaghetti Western connectsDjango UnchainedwithOnce, Audie Murphy connectsBasterdswithOncein fascinating ways.

In a very different way, both films are about changing times.

Theyre also both, to a certain degree, buddy movies.

It was pretty critically derided, so why include it?

Langs work was nominated for Best Cinematography, and Richardsons deserves to be, too.

Its also probably not coincidentally produced by Irving Allen, who producedThe Wrecking Crew.

And it all comes full circle.

Most artistic choices inOncehave a mirror and this one arguably gets two.

First, we see Lee again, training Sharon Tate for her work onThe Wrecking Crew.

One wonders if Dalton and Booth didnt reunite with Lee then.

Why hit it twice?

(1) It tells the tragic story of young death, so when Q.T.

Despite being a possible anachronism would a movie that didnt open until October 1970 be previewed 20 months earlier?

This biker flick stars football legend Joe Namath and Ann-Margret, and most people hated it.

Like so many of Tarantinos decisions in the production of the film, its a perfect choice.

Shows mentioned includeTarzan,Batman, andLand of the Giants.

A group of space travelers land on a planet where everything is … well, giant.

Yes, we also hope theres a deleted scene someday of Daltons appearance.

A lot of people madeBonanzaappointment television possibly even Squeaky Fromme.

It even made an appearance inRomy and Micheles High School Reunion.

There are also thematic connections betweenInglourious BasterdsandOnce, and not just in the way that both films revise history.

The film within a film,The 14 Fists of McCluskey, certainly seems like something inspired byBasterds.

If only Rick could do the same.

Tarantino has attributed that title to Duccio Tessaris 1965A Pistol for RingoandThe Return of Ringo.

It feels like this one may have influenced the fashion of Margot Robbies take on Sharon Tate.

Finally, Tarantino mentioned 1959sBattle of the Coral Sea, a film about a naval battle during WWII.

Again, the choice is multilayered.
