Its hard to let it go, Daniel Hargrave tells me.
Hes not exactly a fan, though the longtime Captain America stuntman certainly has an affinity for the franchise.
But for theEndgameteam,it was different.
There was this one shot [inCivil War] a superhard hit.
On the first take, I hit the ground and I couldnt move.
They go, Cut!
Okay, Marvin, that was great, but youre Spider-Man youre not dead.
So we do it again boom, I hit the ground, and I try this crawling-away motion.
Daniel Stevens, who was doubling Iron Man at the time, had brought his kids to the set.
I also doubled Mystique inX-Men 3, and that was almost six and a half hours of makeup.
Then you work a 15-hour day, and its an hour and a half to get your makeup off.
But when you look in the mirror, youre like,Okay, this is pretty cool.
The first scene I worked on as stunt coordinator [wasInfinity Wars] ark sequence.
So I was pretty grateful that I was able to do that and that my voice was heard.
I feel very close to the ark sequence.
I get knocked out pretty early on [in the elevator scene].
Im supposed to be unconscious, so I become unconscious.
I can fall asleep anywhere.
Its a blessing and a curse …
Stunt coordinators dont like it.
Theyre like, Youre not supposed to be asleep!
And Im like, Im sorry!
Im new to this!
I did anenvergadoand a[cartwheel to a front flip].
I think I did atouchdown raizin there.
And I did ajackknifeagainst Captain America.
What about thatrubber bandon the tarmac?
Winter Soldier uppercuts me and I get knocked back.
You could tell hes a good guy, though, because he felt so bad about it.
I was like, Dude, its okay!
You just hit the mask.
Lets do it again.
I actually cried in the suit [once].
Hes like, See?
And Im like, I cant see right now … My eyes are watering.
Hes like, Youre going to cry right now?
Youre lucky you have a mask on.
And Im like, Yes, I am.
Oh man, its so cool.
What about the mask?
I love the way it looks, but the mask is horrendous.
Chris Pratts mask has a little fan in there and a little vent, so he gets air in.
Then the lenses are like these quarters that are about half an inch away from your eyes.
Once they turn the red lights on, you’re able to see very little.
Its not conducive to filming action scenes.
I actually broke three of the masks.
We can just add the mask in with VFX.
And Im like, Thats an option?
Hes like, Yeah!
That was probably a $50,000 decision.
But the hard part was staying on my feet, pumping my arms and legs without falling.
On one take, I miscalculated my steps, stubbed my toe, and pulled my hamstring.
Everybody got a good chuckle out of it.
He was very cordial, very nice, and Scarlett [Johansson] was the same way.
My brother and I look a lot alike, so they kept calling me Sam.
But thats okay it was interesting to fill my big brothers shoes.
