This isnt directed at you but WTAF#OUTLANDER?!!

When you stick to the books its good.

Murtaghs survival, established briefly last season, has had ripple effects throughout the shows narrative.

Allowing Murtagh to escape death wasnt the first significant changeOutlandermade to the book character.

That tracks withDragonfly in Amber, the second novel in the series.

The effect of all of that can still be felt in this season.

It stems from imagination what if Murtagh survived?

What would that do to the story?

and leads to the possibility of still more.

And perhaps most importantly, hes just there, knocking around in stories in which he initially didnt belong.

Every instance has made the story either more interesting or more easily wrangled.

One decision keep Murtagh, and the excellent Lacroix, around has had countless little upsides.

Thats not to say all adaptive choices are necessarily good ones.

But imagination always comes with the risk of failure.

!, and, most recently, a very sexy glass of scotch to the face.

What exists inside a characters head does not necessarily translate well to the screen.

Passages from a book written almost 20 years ago dont always age well.

You already have your adaptation, letOutlanderhave its own and remember, it cant be all bad.

After all, weve still got Murtagh.
